5: How to Detect and Expose Scammers
How to Detect and Expose Scammers.
Online scammers often appear convincing, but there are clear warning signs you can look for. Protect yourself by staying alert and following these tips:
- Be Cautious with Personal Information
Never share sensitive details like your ID, bank account, or address with people you don’t fully trust or haven’t verified. - Watch for Red Flags
Scammers often use poor grammar, pressure you to act quickly, or avoid video calls and face-to-face meetings. Be careful with profiles that seem too perfect. - Verify Identities
Do a background check. Ask for references or proof of identity. If you’re unsure, contact the company or platform they claim to represent. - Trust Your Instincts
If something feels off, it probably is. Don’t ignore your gut feeling – walk away if you sense anything suspicious. - Report Suspicious Activity
Help protect others by reporting scammers to the website, platform, or relevant authorities. Never try to confront a scammer directly. - The “Perfect Family”
Stock Photo Look Images – The image often looks overly polished or professional – like it was taken from a commercial or brochure. You might see perfect lighting, smiling people in staged poses, or backgrounds that don’t look lived-in. A luxurious backyard, beach house, or poolside scene that could be anywhere in the world, often labelled as “Miami” or “Florida.” Everyone in the photo is extremely attractive, well-dressed, and coordinated. Mark these words: If something is – To good to be True – It’s normally not True. - Never send Money to unknown People.
Many fake families or scammers pretend to be from the U.S., especially Florida or Miami. They often use a Gmail account for contact and, after some time, will ask for upfront payments to cover visa or other ‘processing’ costs. Just be CAREFUL.
